Troops from Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe have apprehended three suspects for possession of a substantial cache of weapons in Delta State. The suspects, identified as Abel Festus, Ramsey Akporoyibo, and Stephen Omah, were caught while traveling in a Lexus RX 350 with registration number YAB 347 CQ in the Oghareki community, located in the Ethiope West Local Government Area.
Discovery of Weapons Cache
The arrest led to the discovery of a significant haul of dangerous weapons, including five pump-action rifles, a Dane gun, a battle axe, and 51 cartridges. These weapons were hidden inside the vehicle, raising immediate security concerns in the region. The swift operation by the Joint Task Force demonstrates its continued efforts to suppress the rise of illegal arms trafficking in the Niger Delta area.
Army’s Statement and Investigation
Major Emmanuel Onoja, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, issued a statement confirming the arrest and the discovery of the weapons. According to Major Onoja, the suspects have been taken into custody for thorough interrogation and a detailed investigation. Authorities are currently looking into the possibility of the suspects’ involvement with criminal groups or any intended use of the seized weapons.
