CAN Reacts to Viral Testimony of Angel Providing Exam Answers

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned a viral testimony from a member of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries. In the controversial testimony, the female church member claimed that “an angel” appeared to her during a promotional examination and provided answers to questions she couldn’t solve. This has sparked a wave of reactions, with CAN questioning the legitimacy of such claims.

The Testimony: Divine Intervention in an Examination

The woman, a member of the military (Army, Navy, or Air Force), recounted her experience during a recent promotional examination. She explained that while attempting to answer 50 questions—40 career-related and 10 on current affairs—she found herself struggling with a question that asked her to “mention 10 Francophone countries and their capitals.” According to her, at this moment, she raised her exam paper and declared: “I am a Chosen! I am chosen!! I am chosen!!! Where is the God of my pastor’s power?”

Suddenly, she claimed that an old man in white apparel, whom she believed to be an angel, appeared beside her and instructed her to begin writing. The woman continued, saying that when the invigilators became suspicious and removed her church apron, the angel disappeared. However, once they returned her apron, the angel reappeared and continued to provide her with the answers.

Eyewitness Account and Reaction from Invigilators

The woman claimed that she was the only person in the exam hall able to answer the questions correctly, alongside a fellow candidate from the Mountain of Fire Ministry, who reportedly copied her answers. The invigilators and other candidates allegedly watched in amazement as she stood up confidently to submit her paper, resulting in only two candidates completing the exam out of 102 participants.

Her testimony was met with celebration at the Lord’s Chosen church, but it quickly went viral on social media, attracting criticism and skepticism from various quarters.

CAN’s Response: Criticism and Caution

In an interview with Punch, the Chairman of the Lagos branch of CAN, Stephen Adegbite, criticized the testimony, describing it as “fabrications.” He emphasized the need for churches to verify testimonies before allowing them to be shared publicly. Adegbite expressed his disapproval, saying that such stories should not be told in church unless they are verified by others present in the exam hall. He further stressed that testimonies like this undermine the seriousness of spiritual testimonies and should not be shared with the congregation.

CAN’s Stance on Testimonies in Churches

CAN’s response highlights the importance of ensuring that testimonies shared in churches are credible and do not lead to misinformation or exploitation of faith. Adegbite stated that some testimonies are simply unsuitable for public consumption and should be rejected outright. He expressed disappointment that such claims were allowed to be shared in the church and suggested that such stories belong in front of “monkeys,” not in places of worship.

Upcoming CAN Meeting

In light of the controversy, the national body of CAN is set to meet on September 28 to discuss this and other similar issues that have recently emerged from the church. The meeting will focus on how churches should handle testimonies, ensuring that they align with the principles of Christian faith and truthfulness.
