In a landmark decision, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the re-election of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in Adamawa State. The appeal was filed by Senator Aisha Binani, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the verdict of the state governorship election petition tribunal. The tribunal had upheld Fintiri’s victory after the supplementary election, where he secured 430,861 votes against Binani’s 398,788 votes. The Court of Appeal, led by Justice Tunde Awotoye, deemed the appellant’s brief as invalid, striking it out for incompetence. The court held that the allegations of corrupt practices lacked sufficient evidence, dismissing the appeal and ordering Binani and APC to pay N1 million for filing a “vague” application.
