Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was born on October 25, 1900, in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Raised in a traditional Yoruba household, she was one of the first Nigerian women to receive a Western education. Advocate for Women’s Right

Mother of Afrobeat
Funmilayo is also the mother of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the famous musician and pioneer of Afrobeat. Her influence on Fela’s life was profound, instilling in him a sense of social justice and activism that became the core of his music. Her contributions extended beyond her political work, shaping Nigeria’s cultural landscape as well.
