Amid soaring food prices and economic hardship, the Nigerian Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has launched an initiative to alleviate food insecurity. On September 5, 2024, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, announced the sale of 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice at a subsidized price of N40,000 for a 50kg bag. Each Nigerian is entitled to one bag of rice, with verification carried out through the National Identification Number (NIN) and phone numbers.
