Maverick singer Charly Boy has urged Nigerians not to take Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka seriously, suggesting that Soyinka’s advanced age might be affecting his cognitive abilities. Charly Boy, 73, expressed concerns about the potential for brain deterioration in Soyinka, who is nearing 90 years old.
Claims of Political Exploitation
Charly Boy asserted that Soyinka’s recent rhetoric and actions could be indicative of a deteriorating brain condition. He emphasized that Nigerians should be more concerned about the influence of desperate politicians who might be exploiting Soyinka’s medical situation.
A Call for Family and Friends’ Intervention
On his Instagram page, Charly Boy wrote about the need for Soyinka’s family and close friends to protect him from political manipulation. He lamented that despite Soyinka’s esteemed reputation, his current condition might be undermined by those seeking to take advantage of his health issues.
Charly Boy’s Instagram post read: “Prof. Wole Soyinka is aged over 80 years, even tending towards 90 years. For his age, some level of brain deterioration is not unexpected. His rhetoric and actions in recent times are suggestive of deteriorating brain disease, and as such he shouldn’t be taken too seriously. What we should be worried about as well-meaning Nigerians is how his family and close friends can’t ward off agents of desperate politicians who are bent on exploiting his medical situation to their advantage, no matter how low it sinks the once respected Nobel laureate.”
