China Southern Airlines Launches Longest Commercial Passenger Flight from China to Mexico City

Inaugural Flight from Shenzhen to Mexico City:

China Southern Airlines is gearing up to debut its longest nonstop regular commercial flight originating from China. Departing from the bustling city of Shenzhen, the inaugural flight to Mexico City is set for May 11. Covering an impressive intercontinental distance of approximately 14,147 kilometers (8,790 miles), passengers will embark on a 16-hour nonstop journey. Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Return Journey:

The return leg from Mexico City to Shenzhen presents a lengthier travel time of around 21 hours and 20 minutes. Commencing on Wednesdays and Sundays starting May 12, this route includes a brief refueling stopover at Tijuana, with passengers remaining on board throughout the layover. The roundtrip journey, coded as CZ8031/2, will utilize Airbus A350 aircraft for enhanced comfort and efficiency.

Surpassing Previous Records:

China Southern Airlines’ latest endeavor surpasses its own Guangzhou to New York flight, previously regarded as the furthest nonstop commercial flight from a Chinese airport. This new route also stakes its claim on the global stage, securing the 8th position on the list of the world’s longest flights compiled by aviation analytics database OAG. While the Singapore to New York route operated by Singapore Airlines still holds the top spot, China Southern’s Shenzhen to Mexico City route promises to offer travelers a remarkable long-haul experience.

Resurgence of Long-Haul Travel:

As borders gradually reopened in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines have been diligently restoring flight routes, particularly those catering to long-haul travel. With China leading the way in reestablishing international connections, China Southern Airlines’ venture into the Mexican market signifies a significant milestone in global aviation.

Pioneering Connections:

China Southern Airlines continues to pave the way for Chinese carriers in international markets. Having launched its first flights to Mexico in 2017, the airline has been instrumental in fostering connectivity between China and North America. This latest endeavor further solidifies its commitment to expanding its global footprint and enhancing air travel options for passengers worldwide.
