Tragedy struck the University of Georgia campus as authorities investigate the death of a woman found near Lake Herrick. Here’s what we know:
Discovery of the Victim:
On February 22, UGA’s police department received a call expressing concern for a friend who failed to return from a run near the Intramural Fields. Upon investigation, the individual was discovered in a forested area behind Lake Herrick at approximately 12:38 p.m. Sadly, the victim was found unconscious, without vital signs, and exhibiting visible injuries. Despite efforts by emergency medical responders, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

UGA Police Chief Jeffrey L. Clark confirmed during a press conference that the victim was not a UGA student but attended another school. Foul play is suspected, prompting cooperation between UGA authorities, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. No arrests or suspects have been identified at this time, and Chief Clark assured the public that there is no immediate danger.
