Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has been released from hospital after receiving treatment for an acute case of gastroenteritis, the club confirmed Thursday.
The French captain, 26, was absent from training earlier this week in Palm Beach, Florida, and missed Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup group stage on Wednesday.
In a statement released just hours after initially announcing his hospitalization, Real Madrid revealed that Mbappé had been discharged and is now back at the club’s training complex in Palm Beach.
“Mbappé will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activity,” the statement read.
What Happened?
Mbappé was sidelined due to a fever on Tuesday before being diagnosed with gastroenteritis a gut infection that can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It is unclear how severe the episode was, but Real opted to act cautiously given his importance to the team.
What’s Next for Mbappé?
Real Madrid’s next match in the FIFA Club World Cup is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, against Mexican side Pachuca at 20:00 BST. Whether Mbappé will feature remains uncertain.
If not fully fit by then, a more likely return could come in their final group stage game against Salzburg on June 26, giving the star forward additional recovery time.
Mbappé’s Impact So Far
Mbappé has enjoyed a stellar debut season with Real Madrid, scoring 43 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions after arriving from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
His arrival has already paid dividends, helping Los Blancos secure both the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup under new manager Xabi Alonso, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the La Liga season.
Caution, Not Concern
Although Mbappé’s illness triggered concern among fans, the swift hospital release and return to the training base suggest the condition is being managed carefully but isn’t expected to pose long-term issues.
As Real Madrid looks to add the Club World Cup to its trophy cabinet, all eyes will be on Mbappé’s fitness and whether he can make another dazzling appearance on the global stage.
