Operation Ordered by Commissioner of Police
The Anambra State Joint Security Force successfully carried out a raid on an insurgents’ camp located in Achalla, the headquarters of Awka North Local Government Area. The operation, directed by Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye, aimed to address the recent disruptions caused by the hoodlums in the region.
Disruption at Achalla Market
The decision to launch the operation was prompted by the disruption of trading activities at Achalla Market the previous Monday, leading to a sit-at-home directive for traders. The state police command took swift action to address the situation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Successful Operation Yields Significant Recoveries
The press statement issued by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga on Tuesday highlighted the success of the operation. Security forces were able to recover five exotic vehicles that had been previously snatched at gunpoint. Additionally, over 300 rounds of machine gun ammunition and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for AK-47 rifles were seized during the operation.
Safe Return of Operatives and Directives from Commissioner
All operatives involved in the operation, representing various services, have safely returned to their base. Commissioner Adeoye directed the owners of the recovered vehicles to come forward with proof of ownership and collect their vehicles. The manhunt for the fleeing insurgents will be extended to hospitals and clinics to ensure their apprehension after receiving necessary medical treatment.
Ongoing Efforts Against Criminal Activities
This successful raid follows earlier efforts by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police in January 2024, where approximately 30 suspects, including kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, and hoodlums, were arrested. Furthermore, on February 12, 2024, the Command announced the recovery of two AK-47 rifles stolen from police formations in previous years, showcasing the continued commitment to curbing criminal activities in the state.
