Tory Lanez Transferred to New Prison Following Near-Fatal Stabbing

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, is recovering after surviving a brutal prison attack that left him with 14 stab wounds and both lungs collapsed. The incident occurred on May 12, 2025, at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. The alleged assailant, 42-year-old inmate Santino Casio, is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and has a history of violent offenses within the prison system.

Transfer to Ensure Safety

Following the attack, Lanez was transferred to the California Men’s Colony (CMC) in San Luis Obispo, approximately three hours away from the original facility. This move aims to ensure his safety, as officials determined they could no longer guarantee his well-being at the previous location. Lanez’s attorney, Crystal Morgan, confirmed the transfer and stated that while he is recovering well, he is not entirely pleased with the relocation.

Public Outcry and Calls for Pardon

The stabbing incident has reignited public debate surrounding Lanez’s conviction. Rapper Drake has publicly urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon Lanez, sharing a Change.org petition that alleges prosecutorial misconduct and missing forensic evidence. The petition, supported by the Caldwell Institute for Public Safety, has garnered over 268,000 signatures.

Megan Thee Stallion Responds

In response to the renewed attention and calls for Lanez’s pardon, Megan Thee Stallion has spoken out against the ongoing harassment she faces. She emphasized that Lanez was found guilty in court and criticized those who continue to question her account of the events. Megan highlighted the emotional toll the situation has taken on her and called for an end to the misinformation and harassment.

Lanez’s Musical Endeavors from Prison

Despite his incarceration, Lanez has remained musically active. In March 2025, he released his eighth studio album, “Peterson,” which was recorded entirely while in prison using AI technology. The album features collaborations with various artists, including members of his family, and has been described as the “first ever in-real-time prison album.

Looking Ahead

As Lanez continues his recovery at the new facility, investigations into the stabbing incident are ongoing. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, along with the Office of the Inspector General, are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack. Meanwhile, public discourse around Lanez’s conviction and the broader issues of prison safety and justice reform continues to evolve.
