Actress Jumoke George’s Daughter Returns to Nigeria After Four-Year Ordeal in Mali

Veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George is rejoicing as her daughter, Adeola, has returned to Nigeria after being missing for four years. Adeola was found in Mali, where she had been trafficked, and was rescued through the concerted efforts of the Nigerian government and concerned individuals.

The Disappearance

Adeola, who was living with her grandmother in Ibadan, disappeared after informing her family that she was traveling to Lagos. She later contacted her mother from an unknown number, seeking forgiveness but providing little information about her whereabouts. It was later revealed that she had been lured abroad by friends under the pretense of seeking better opportunities, only to find herself in a dire situation in Mali.

Rescue and Return

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), led by Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa, played a pivotal role in facilitating Adeola’s return. Actress Biola Adebayo, who had previously interviewed Jumoke George about her missing daughter, also assisted in the rescue efforts. Adeola was received in Nigeria by Dabiri-Erewa, Adebayo, and actor Niyi Johnson.

Jumoke George’s Struggles

During her daughter’s absence, Jumoke George faced significant hardships, including health issues and financial difficulties. She revealed in interviews that she had been living in a church for several years due to homelessness and had been caring for Adeola’s children in her absence. Her son, Ife, also took on responsibilities to support the family during this challenging period.

A Cautionary Tale

Adeola’s experience underscores the dangers of human trafficking and the importance of vigilance when seeking opportunities abroad. It also highlights the need for robust support systems for victims and their families, as well as the critical role of government agencies and community members in addressing such issues.
