Unmasking Deceit: General Overseer’s Million-Dollar Scam Exposed by EFCC!

Scam Exposed by EFCC!

In a recent development reported by Punch Newspaper, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against fraud in Nigeria. The commission has arrested Theophilus Ebonyi, the General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International, on allegations of defrauding church members and other Nigerians of N1.3 billion through fabricated grants.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Ebonyi is accused of utilizing his NGO, Theobarth Global Foundation, to mislead victims into thinking they could access a $20 billion grant from the Ford Foundation by paying registration fees of N1.8 million each. Oyewale stressed that Ebonyi’s victims were unsuspecting Nigerians and NGOs nationwide.

The arrest follows allegations that Ebonyi deceived his victims by advertising an intervention project through his NGO, falsely asserting that the Ford Foundation was offering a grant to assist the less privileged. Investigations revealed that Ebonyi allegedly amassed a staggering N1,319,040,274.31 through this fraudulent scheme.

A notable revelation from the EFCC’s investigation was the Ford Foundation’s explicit denial of any association with Ebonyi or his NGO. The foundation disclaimed him and his organization, emphasizing no link whatsoever. Despite this disavowal, Ebonyi reportedly persisted in promoting his spurious grant on various social media platforms.

Beyond the fraudulent activities, the EFCC revealed that Ebonyi had acquired five properties as proceeds of his criminal dealings. These properties are now under further investigation as part of ongoing efforts to uncover the full extent of his fraudulent activities.
