A 25-year-old Kenyan woman has been arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while attempting to smuggle 1.3 kilograms of cocaine to India.
According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, May 2, 2025, the suspect, identified as Caroline Wanjiku Mwangi, was apprehended just moments before boarding a flight to Goa, India.
During a routine security screening, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit flagged Wanjiku for further inspection. A detailed search of her luggage led to the discovery of two suspiciously concealed bags.
Inside the bags, detectives found a white powdery substance tightly wrapped in yellow cellotape. A field test confirmed the substance was cocaine, weighing approximately 1.3 kilograms.

“Caroline Wanjiku Mwangi learned the hard way that drug smuggling doesn’t lead to a holiday in the sun, but straight into police custody,” the DCI stated.
Wanjiku is currently being held at the JKIA Police Station and is undergoing processing pending her court arraignment. The recovered narcotics have been secured as evidence.

As the DCI put it, “Her trip to Goa has now turned into an extended staycation—courtesy of the keen-eyed Anti-Narcotics detectives.”
