In a shocking midnight twist straight out of a blockbuster, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Omole mansion of flamboyant Lagos socialite and billionaire businessman, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel—popularly known as E-Money—and whisked him away in connection with alleged currency abuse.
The arrest, which took place under the cover of darkness on Monday night, has sent ripples through Nigeria’s elite circles. E-Money, famous for his extravagant lifestyle and viral videos of money-spraying at high-profile parties, is now at the centre of a storm involving alleged violations of the country’s financial laws.
According to insider sources within the EFCC, the socialite was apprehended for allegedly spraying U.S. dollars—a move that authorities say flouts the Foreign Exchange Act. The act of defacing or mishandling foreign currency is considered a serious offense, and E-Money’s alleged display of dollars has now placed him squarely in the commission’s crosshairs.

“Yes, he was arrested at his home in Omole. It’s about Naira abuse and defacing U.S. currency. Preliminary investigations have begun, and he will be charged as soon as we conclude,” a senior source disclosed.
The drama didn’t end in Lagos. As Tuesday dawned, the EFCC reportedly flew E-Money to Abuja, where he is expected to face intense interrogation by investigators. An EFCC official, speaking under the condition of anonymity, confirmed: “He’s currently being transported to Abuja for further questioning.”
Efforts to get an official statement from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale proved unsuccessful, as he declined to comment on the unfolding case.
As Nigerians reel from the unexpected news, many are left wondering: is this the fall of one of Lagos’ most flamboyant social figures—or just the beginning of a legal spectacle?
