The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that no candidate will be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) outside the state where they registered.
This was disclosed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, during a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
Dr. Benjamin addressed concerns that some candidates who participated in the 2025 UTME mock examination were assigned centres outside their registered states. He explained that this arrangement was due to the limited number of available Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the mock exercise.
“If centres for mock in Abuja are filled up and there were available centres in Nassarawa State, candidates will be sent there,” he said.
He reassured candidates and stakeholders that such scenarios will not affect the main UTME, as all registered CBT centres will be operational during the main examination.
“This is not likely to happen in the main examination because there will be more centres conducting the main examination and so, no candidate will be sent outside their state of residence,” he added.
Dr. Benjamin also emphasized the importance of early registration, noting that it plays a crucial role in determining how close a candidate’s assigned centre will be.
“Once a closer centre is already filled up, the candidate may be assigned any available centre within the state,” he explained.
JAMB has already fixed the date for the 2025 UTME mock exam and urges all registered candidates to take note of their designated centres and prepare accordingly.
