Naja’atu Mohammed Challenges Ribadu to Court Over Tinubu Corruption Allegations

Political activist and former APC chieftain, Naja’atu Mohammed, has dared National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu to take legal action against her after he denied ever stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was corrupt during his tenure as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Controversy

The dispute arose after Naja’atu Mohammed recently claimed that Ribadu, during his time as EFCC Chairman, had accused Tinubu of corruption. However, Ribadu swiftly dismissed the allegation, calling it false and misleading. In response, Naja’atu stood her ground, insisting that she had spoken the truth and challenging Ribadu to take the matter to court.

Naja’atu’s Response

Refusing to retract her statement, Naja’atu issued a strong rebuttal, stating:
“I stand by my words. If he thinks I am lying, let’s meet in court.”

She emphasized that Ribadu’s past records and public statements were well-documented, suggesting that his denial was politically motivated.

Ribadu’s Position

Ribadu, who served as EFCC Chairman from 2003 to 2007, has in the past been vocal about fighting corruption in Nigeria. However, in his current role as NSA, he has distanced himself from any past remarks that could be seen as critical of the Tinubu administration.

Reactions from the Public and Political Circles

Supporters of Naja’atu argue that she is exposing past truths that some political figures now seek to suppress.

Ribadu’s Defenders insist that he never directly accused Tinubu of corruption and that his past statements have been misinterpreted.

Legal and Political Analysts speculate that the case, if taken to court, could open a debate on the transparency of Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.

The Bigger Picture

This controversy highlights the complex relationships between political figures in Nigeria, especially regarding past and present allegiances. It also raises questions about the credibility of anti-corruption efforts and whether past investigations were influenced by political interests.
As the verbal battle between Naja’atu Mohammed and Nuhu Ribadu continues, Nigerians await to see whether the issue will escalate to a legal showdown or fade into political rhetoric. Regardless of the outcome, the debate has once again put corruption allegations and political accountability in the spotlight.
