New York City Hospitals Reinstate Mask Mandates Amid Uptick in COVID and Flu Cases
Amid a resurgence of COVID-19 and influenza cases, New York City public hospitals have reintroduced mask mandates within specific areas. The mandate extends across 11 hospitals, 30 health centers, and five long-term care facilities managed by NYC Health + Hospitals. Dr. Ashwin Vasan, the city’s health commissioner, emphasized that the mask requirement specifically targets areas where patient care is administered, as reported by local ABC 7 NY.
While hospitals have managed the recent influx of patients adequately and are not currently overwhelmed, the reinstated mandate aims to safeguard staff against potential infections.
