Imo Police Dismantle Armed Robbery Syndicate in Owerri

The Imo State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate that has been terrorizing residents of Owerri North Local Government Area. This operation led to the neutralization of one suspect and the arrest of another.

Details of the Incident

According to a statement released by the police spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, the operation took place on October 15, 2024. At approximately 3:20 AM, a patrol team from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call reporting an armed robbery in progress on Dominion Street, near Don Kay in Owerri North LGA.

Upon arrival, the officers encountered gunfire from the armed robbers. Displaying remarkable bravery, the officers quickly assumed strategic positions and returned fire.

Outcomes of the Confrontation

During the confrontation, one suspect was neutralized, while another, identified as Moses Nanzi, a 31-year-old from Faringada in Plateau State, sustained gunshot injuries and was subsequently arrested. The other gang members managed to flee into nearby bushes.

From the arrested suspect, the police recovered a double-barrel gun and seven rounds of live cartridges.

The Imo State Police Command is actively pursuing the fleeing gang members and has assured the public that the arrested suspect will face prosecution following a thorough investigation.
