A Nigerian father has formally petitioned the Senate after his 16-year-old daughter’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) result was withheld. According to the petition, the result was allegedly withheld after the girl refused inappropriate advances from an exam invigilator during her JAMB examination.
The Alleged Incident
The incident reportedly took place at the young girl’s exam center, where an invigilator allegedly made advances towards her, including requesting her phone number. When the 16-year-old refused to give in to his advances, she was later informed that her result had been withheld. The father of the student, deeply concerned about the situation, claimed that the invigilator’s actions were retaliatory, as the result was withheld under the false pretense of examination malpractice.
Father’s Response and Escalation
The girl’s father, alarmed by the situation, contacted the invigilator after discovering that he had obtained his daughter’s phone number. Despite warning him to stop calling, the issue escalated, leaving the student’s exam result in jeopardy. Frustrated by the lack of resolution, the father has turned to the Nigerian Senate for intervention, seeking justice for his daughter and demanding the release of her JAMB result.
Senate Committee on Ethics Involvement
Senator Neda Imaseun, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, brought the case to his colleagues’ attention. He explained the father’s petition and described how the invigilator’s advances were allegedly the catalyst for the withholding of the girl’s result. The father is now urging the Senate to investigate and rectify the situation to ensure that his daughter’s educational future is not compromised.
Calls for Investigation
The petition has sparked public interest and calls for a thorough investigation into the matter. The family and concerned individuals are seeking accountability, not only for the withholding of the JAMB result but also for the inappropriate behavior of the invigilator.
