Fubara’s Disregard for Court Judgment is an Invitation to Anarchy – Wike

Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a strong statement condemning the actions of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Wike accuses Fubara of disregarding court rulings and fueling political unrest in Rivers State by moving forward with local government elections despite legal warnings.

Wike’s Criticism of Fubara’s Actions

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike expressed his concerns about Governor Fubara’s decision to ignore a court judgment related to the local government elections. Wike emphasized that failing to respect the rule of law threatens to destabilize the region and invite chaos. He stated, “The moment you don’t obey a court judgment, you are inviting anarchy and violence.”

Wike further criticized Fubara for what he described as reckless behavior, including Fubara’s dismissal of the need for police protection. Wike believes that this stance creates an environment where disorder and lawlessness are encouraged, ultimately harming the peace and stability of the state.

The Importance of the Rule of Law

Wike, drawing from his experience as a former governor, highlighted the critical role of the judiciary in maintaining order. He pointed out that when leaders ignore court judgments, it sends a dangerous signal to the public that the law no longer matters, thereby fostering an atmosphere ripe for violence and instability. “When there’s violence, when there’s instability, it’s for you to ask questions: what has led to the violence, what has led to the instability, what has led to destruction?” Wike stated, stressing the need for accountability and adherence to legal processes.

The Escalating Tensions in Rivers State

Tensions in Rivers State have been rising since the dispute over the local government elections began. Both Wike and Fubara have found themselves at odds over key governance decisions, contributing to political friction. Wike’s accusations come at a time when the state’s political atmosphere is already charged, with residents and political observers closely watching how events unfold.

Wike’s Call for Responsibility

Wike called on Fubara and other political leaders to exercise restraint and respect the court’s authority to avoid further escalation of tensions. He warned that continued disregard for the rule of law would only lead to more chaos. Wike urged those in power to prioritize peace, stability, and the well-being of the people they serve. “No person who believes in peace and stability will say he supports violence or destruction,” he asserted.

Way Forward

Nyesom Wike’s sharp rebuke of Governor Fubara’s disregard for court judgments serves as a reminder of the importance of the rule of law in maintaining order. As the situation in Rivers State continues to evolve, the need for responsible leadership and respect for legal institutions becomes increasingly vital to preventing further political unrest.
