The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Faisal Audu, in connection with the alleged murder of a local hunter, Saheed Awolesi, in the Sagamu area.
Details of the Incident
The incident came to light when Saheed Awolesi went night hunting around 9:00 p.m. on October 5, 2024, but failed to return home. Concerned family members and members of the hunters’ association initiated a search for him. Their efforts led to a breakthrough when detectives called Awolesi’s mobile phone, which was answered at the Ibafo Police Station. This indicated that Audu had already been detained by police.
Evidence and Arrest
During the arrest, officers found Awolesi’s mobile phone and motorcycle in Audu’s possession. Additional items, including a jackknife and a cutlass, were also seized, suspected to be stolen. After being handed over to the Igbeba Police Division for further questioning, Audu confessed to killing Awolesi and stealing his belongings.
Discovery of the Body
Audu led investigators to the crime scene, where Awolesi’s body was discovered with visible signs of violent injuries. The remains have since been recovered and transported to a mortuary in Sagamu for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
Future Plans
This incident highlights the ongoing concerns about violence in rural areas and the challenges faced by local law enforcement in ensuring the safety of residents. The police have pledged to continue their investigation to ensure justice for the victim.
