A Nigerian man, Baridueh Badon, recently shared his inspiring story of overcoming workplace injustice to find a better life overseas. Baridueh, who was earning a substantial income while working for a non-governmental organization (NGO), was fired from his job by his boss, who wanted to promote his girlfriend into his role. This life-changing moment led Baridueh on a journey of transformation, both personally and professionally.
Unjust Termination and the Search for a New Opportunity
In 2017, Baridueh was working for an NGO in Nigeria, earning about N1 million per month. His career took a sudden downturn when his boss in Abuja decided to terminate his employment, solely to promote his girlfriend. Despite his manager’s efforts and Baridueh’s own attempts to fight the unfair dismissal, nothing changed. Feeling devastated and betrayed, he was forced to look for new opportunities.
Applying for a Fellowship Program and Moving to Germany
Not long after his dismissal, Baridueh came across a fellowship program sponsored by the German President and other industries. The program had 5,600 applicants from 45 African countries, and Baridueh was one of the 47 fellows selected. This opportunity allowed him to leave Nigeria and move to Germany. The fellowship came with several perks, including a visa arranged by the German government, and marked the beginning of Baridueh’s upward trajectory.
Career Growth and Personal Milestones in Germany
Since relocating, Baridueh has achieved remarkable success. During the fellowship, he transitioned from earning in naira to earning in dollars and eventually in euros. He completed executive education programs with Cambridge and Harvard universities, secured high-paying international roles, and saw his professional career take off. By 33, he had tripled his salary in euros and found the love of his life, whom he later married.
God’s Guidance Through Adversity
Reflecting on his journey, Baridueh credits God for turning the difficult events in his life into blessings. He believes that being forced out of his job was part of a greater plan, as it pushed him to explore new opportunities he wouldn’t have considered otherwise. He encourages others to trust in God’s plan, even in moments of discomfort or challenge.
Achieving Life and Career Goals
Baridueh’s life has transformed significantly since his relocation. He has achieved personal and career goals that include becoming a permanent resident in Germany, buying his wife a dream car, and delving into investments. His five-year growth plan, which he created at 32, is now 80% complete. He credits this achievement to strategic thinking, innovation, and intentional self-improvement.
A Message of Faith and Encouragement
Baridueh encourages others to maintain a relationship with God and trust in His guidance, even in difficult situations. His story highlights how adversity can lead to growth and greater opportunities.
